If you’ve been following along, you know I love a good Greek find. And Greco Fresh Grille is all that and more.
The first Greco Fresh Grille opened almost six years ago and has since expanded to three Charlotte-area locations and one in Fort Mill. I met with owner Vasili (Bill) Pahountis at the Blakeney location, and we instantly bonded over both being Greek (disclaimer: he is WAY Greeker than me!)
Vasili and his family moved to Charlotte eight years ago from New Jersey, where he owned a large Greek diner. After quickly realizing Charlotte needed more Greek eats, he went to work on Greco Fresh. The menu is made of dishes inspired by Vasili’s mother’s recipes, made simpler for easier preparation.
I started with dolmades (grape leaves), feta, and homemade hummus (the flavor changes weekly) with pita. Can’t go wrong with this delicious trio.
Next were the amazing lemon oregano fries and cumin garlic fries. Drool. Sign me up for anything lemony and anything involving french fries (especially hand-cut).
I’m always on a quest for a good gyro, so I tried the traditional (lamb) and the chicken. Both were juicy and flavorful and full of amazing homemade tzatziki.
And of course – dessert! The baklava is homemade by Vasili’s wife, and it’s truly unbelievable. Even if you’re not the biggest baklava fan, Greco Fresh’s is a must-try. Perfectly flaky, syrupy, and sweet.
My favorite Greek dessert is loukoumades, aka Greek doughnuts, aka perfection. I’ve never had loukoumades as good as the ones at my hometown Greek festival until now.
I also tried something I’ve never had – Lahano Salata. This is a salad made of raw cabbage, arugula, green onion, dill, lemon, and olive oil. Sounds simple, but it is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to get this again (sry, no pic… ate it too fast!)
So, there you go. Fantastic fast Greek food at a great price made by a great Greek family. Make plans to visit ASAP!
